Spotlight Series

These resources are a part of our new series of ‘Spotlights.’

These case studies are co-produced with organisations and people across Wales who are leading initiatives at the community level which are already contributing to the vision for Wales to become a trauma-informed nation by working in a trauma-informed way. The purpose of these reports is to shine a light on the existing approaches, celebrate their work and continue to inform and support the implementation of the Trauma-informed Wales Framework and further development of our Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (TrACE) informed organisational toolkit.

Home-Start Cymru

This report outlines the work of Home-Start Cymru; a charity which provides emotional and practical support to families in need across Wales using a non-judgmental, compassionate and strengths-based approach which is built on trust. This case study shows how the NYTH/NEST Framework which underpins Home Start’s approach, is aligned to the values and principles of the Trauma-informed Wales Framework - which together are working to build and sustain a strengths and children’s rights-based, whole system approach to mental health and wellbeing for children, families, Home Start Cymru’s volunteers and workforce.

Anglesey: A Trauma-Informed Island

This poster sets out Anglesey’s journey, starting with looked after children in schools and developing a common language across children’s services, voluntary and statutory agencies and embedded in the communities of the island itself. This journey is founded on a strengths-based approach which builds into the connection, engagement, civic assets and the natural resources of the people and the island itself, to create a positive psychosocial environment and a high level of community resilience. There are exciting developments planned and underway for the future as Anglesey moves forward to realising its vision of a whole system approach, looking beyond behaviours to understand anyone can experience adversity and trauma in their lives, and rooted in empathy and compassion.

Building a Fairer Gwent

This report outlines how, through adopting the ’Marmot City’ approach developed by Sir Michael Marmot, at a regional level in Gwent, ‘Building a Fairer Gwent’ seeks to embed a trauma-informed model that tackles health inequalities in a way that is aligned to the principles and ethos of the Wales Trauma-informed Framework. ‘Building a Fairer Gwent’ recognises the inextricable link between the social determinants of health, health inequalities and the risk of adverse childhood experiences and trauma. This work provides an important contribution to knowledge about community level work to tackle root causes.
